Roots in Entrepreneurship and Creativity

Emily's story begins in a household where entrepreneurship wasn't just a concept, but a way of life. As she puts it:

"I grew up in a very entrepreneurial household. My parents had two natural food and beverage companies, and I grew up cooking, so I got very involved in it at a young age."

This early exposure to the world of business and product development laid the foundation for Emily's future endeavors. She recalls vivid memories of being in Whole Foods or Wegmans with her parents, doing product demos, and even sitting in on investor meetings.

The Birth of Kitchen Twins

At the tender age of nine, Emily and her twin sister, Lyla, started their blog, Kitchen Twins. What began as a simple desire to share their love for cooking blossomed into a multi-faceted business:

"We started the blog when we were nine... and from there it blossomed into this business that we wanted to share our mission with however many people we could, however many ways we could."

This early start in content creation taught the twins valuable lessons about creativity, perseverance, and the power of sharing your passions with the world.

Evolving Across Platforms

As the digital landscape evolved, so did Kitchen Twins. From their blog, they expanded to Instagram, podcast, and even considered venturing into TikTok. Each platform presented its own challenges and opportunities:

"We've tried to do TikTok. It's definitely a lot more difficult to do it for like a food account, in my opinion... now that we're home, it's funny. When we got home you can just see the growth when you put that extra few minutes in, and you can't necessarily do that when you're at school and be consistent."

This journey across platforms highlights the importance of adaptability and consistency in content creation.

The Power of Collaboration

One of the unique aspects of Emily's story is her partnership with her twin sister. This collaboration has been both a strength and a challenge:

"People joke like my sister and I are , just constantly do all this stuff. So we're like, it's a good way to have other people hear us talking with each other. It's a fly on the wall sort of perspective."

Working with a sibling has taught Emily valuable lessons about communication, compromise, and leveraging each other's strengths.

Overcoming Challenges in Content Creation

Like many content creators, Emily has faced her share of challenges, particularly when it comes to putting herself out there:

"I have a hard time whenever I was on TV when I was younger, when my sister and I were trying to get back into our podcast. When we did that, it took me a while to be able to watch myself or listen to myself, because it's uncomfortable."

This vulnerability is something many creators can relate to, and Emily's honesty about these struggles offers encouragement to those facing similar fears.

Learning Through Listening

Emily's venture into podcasting has taught her valuable lessons about the art of conversation and storytelling:

"I've learned about listening skills... how to have a meaningful conversation and not following the script or anything like that. We'd always have a few ideas of things we wanted to talk about. And I say this because it's something we learned is that you don't need to follow the script."

These skills have not only improved her content but have also enriched her personal interactions and business acumen.

Balancing Creativity and Business

As a student at Georgetown University majoring in Economics and minoring in Business, Emily brings a unique perspective to her creative endeavors:

"I love science so for me it was like a science experiment. I never measured. I was like recipes are boring. I don't wanna follow this so it turned into my sort of laboratory of being able to mix things together."

This blend of creativity and business acumen has allowed Kitchen Twins to grow from a simple blog to a multi-faceted brand.

Looking to the Future

As for the future of Kitchen Twins, Emily remains open to possibilities:

"I have a Google Doc. And it's literally just called ideas... it's a few pages long of just like things like, oh, this is a problem but here's a potential solution."

This continuous ideation and problem-solving mindset is a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit that has driven Kitchen Twins from its inception.
